Published yesterday published an interview with Capi Corrales recently honored with the award Laura Iglesias Romero in science communication. It talks about some of the evils of mathematics, such as lack of outreach work or lack of women.
Those who have had the pleasure to learn geometry with her remember her simple way of doing what before was incomprehensible to us.
It is also a woman committed to the world we live and the society around it.
copied and pasted a few paragraphs of the interview in regard to the presence of women in mathematics:
After the war, women no longer exist. Has killed many people and needs women giving birth and not at universities. So not only are not given opportunities, but that should not motivate them. It ninguneo history and memory of all those women from being a model for other women. A Franco did not care who knew that during the Republic had been women scientists, nor cared to have women doing research, because the woman who has investigated one or two children, not seven.
is due to several factors, but the key is the behavior of the mathematical community with women. In Spain we had a period in which both the mathematical community and from institutions has made an effort to make people aware of this problem, but this will begin to reverse, because socially being reversed. Girls and boys have no interest in thinking, to play, no curiosity. In the nineteenth century workers were needed and now need to consume, not people who think. I see women who are becoming more models, presidents who left to air the weddings of their daughters before the end of the race, that was not well seen before ... This will ultimately have an impact on state policies. If you do not give votes to policies that guarantee equal access, stop doing, and if left to do as yet not been developed for long enough, will be back in rights.
If you have time read it, will not be disappointed.
